Orange – Summer Essay Boot Camp (“How to write essays like an Ivy League student”) 프로그램에 대하여 안내 드리도록 하겠습니다. 

먼저 해당 프로그램을 간략하게 설명 드리자면, 9-12 학년 학생을 대상으로 학년 및 실력이 비슷한 학생끼리 그룹을 나누어 다수와 함께 zoom 세션을 통해 9주에 걸쳐 진행됩니다. 해당 프로그램을 통하여 얻을 수 있는 효과는 실제 대학에서 진행하는 에세이 작성 및 토론 등의 과정을 미리 경험 해 보실 수 있으며, 같은 그룹의 학생들이 peer 리뷰를 통하여 서로의 에세이 초안에 대해 구두로 자신의 주장을 옹호하고 검토하고 건설적인 비판을 할 수 있는 시간을 가질 수 있습니다. 더불어 학생들의 연구와 논증 등을 통해 분석적이고 설득력 있는 에세이 작성 실력을 쌓아 John Locke, Concord Review 와 같은 유명한 에세이 대회에 참여하실 수 있는 배경 지식을 갖출 수 있고 IB TOK, EE 를 어렵지 않게 준비하실 수 있습니다.

I. J&B program: Orange – Summer Essay Boot Camp

                         (“How to write essays like an Ivy League student”)

II. Target audience: 9-12 graders

III. Target students: 4-8 per group 



IV. Program length: 06/14 - 08/13 (9 weeks)

V. Program description:

Students are given a unique opportunity to sharpen their essay writing skills over the summer! J&B’s Summer Essay Boot Camp is a highly competitive essay program which will train students to become sophisticated thinkers and writers through rigorous essay writing process and oral defense. Students not only get to write an essay, from outline to final draft, on an actual essay prompt from John Locke Essay Competition, but they also have an invaluable opportunity to orally defend their own arguments, review and give constructive criticism on peers’ drafts. As a result, students will develop not only enhanced essay writing skills but also a keen eye for details and arguments. The students who are selected to participate in this program are expected to gain analytical and persuasive essay writing skills through research, arguments and oral defense. This program works best for students who are interested in trying out essay competitions like John Locke and Concord Review as well as preparing for IB TOK and EE.

VI. Program structure:  

Week 1: Students work on a detailed outline with resources

Week 2: Students work on an introductory part based on the outline created

Week 3: J&B provides edits, feedback and suggestions on the Week 2 work

Week 4: Students work on body paragraphs based on the outline created

Week 5: J&B provides edits, feedback and suggestions on the Week 4 work

Week 6: Students work on a conclusion part based on the outline created

Week 7: J&B provides edits, feedback and suggestions on the Week 6 work

Week 8: J&B conducts a comprehensive review/makes edits on the final draft

Week 9: Students orally defend their arguments to complete learning process

(아웃라인부터 시작하여 intro > body > conclusion 작성으로 이루어지며 학생이 작성한 에세이와 관련된 피드백 줌 세션 및 J&B의 edit은 개별적으로 이루어집니다.)
