안녕하신지요?

This place is my huge tomb.
People set up a nominal memorial and they take pictures.
As you can see they only maintain my form through various supports.
Like a prisoner caged behind bars,
I have lost my power of vitality and I only just endure the time.
Endless time, lifelong pain, my whole body suffering with the agonies I have endured...
Can you understand my sadness?
이곳은 저의 거대한 무덤입니다.
사람들은 무덤 앞에 떡 하니 기념비라는 명목의 비석을 세우고
자기네끼리 기념촬영을 합니다.
보시다시피 전 여러 개의 지지대로 겨우 모양새를 유지하고 있을 뿐
철창 속에 갇힌 죄인처럼 생명력을 잃고 그냥 모진세월을 견딜 뿐입니다.
무수한 시간을, 기나긴 고통을, 온갖 시달림과 괴로움을 감내하며...
저의 슬픔을 아시겠는지요.

가슴이 아려서 아무 말도 드릴 수 없습니다.


What are humans doing with nature?
They prop me up with support beams
and giving me IVs to memorialize me as they please.
They gave me a strange title and say they pray for my health.
But I'm just one of the tourist sites for them.
They made up a legend to celebrate me
and they are in the middle of their own mistaken idea that a holly tree is guarding them.
Human beings can't catch what it is we really want.
No… and they don't even try to find it out.
We are forced to follow their frame.
Does my position look natural to you?
Does it look beautiful?
Is it memorial enough for you?
인간이 자연에게 어떻게 하고 있는지요?
제설작용을 하고 지지대로 받쳐주고 수액을 맞춰가며 저를 기념하고 있습니다.
저에게 이상한 벼슬을 떡 하니 내려놓고
저를 바라보며 건강하기를 바란다고들 합니다.
저는 그들에게 하나의 관광상품일 뿐입니다.
관광객을 끌어들이고 기념사진을 찍기 위한 배경 외엔 더 무엇이겠는지요?
저를 기린다고 전설을 만들어내고 마치 영험한 나무가 이곳을 지켜준다는 듯
자신들만의 착각에 빠져 있습니다.
인간은 우리가 진정 무엇을 원하는지 짐작조차 하지 못합니다.
아니, 알려고도 하지 않습니다.
자신들의 사상누각 속에 우리를 끼워 맞추고 있지요.
저의 모습이 자연스러운가요?
아름다운가요?
기념이 될 만 한가요?

Human beings don't know what true beauty is.
Their eyes are polluted from materials.
They are madly desperate about how they can make a profit,
and they speak ill of and hate each other.
It's been too long since humans looked at the sky.
They stopped breathing with nature and they don't even try to find out who they are.
They are only interested in trifling instincts and satisfaction of the body.
They have forgotten about the providence of the Universe and that of nature.
They just go on living.
This kind of human being is reflected in my present condition.
They say it is for me, but they are just treating me as they like.
They don't even try to know if I am crying or angry.
인간은 진정한 아름다움이 뭔지 모릅니다.
그들의 눈은 물질로 오염되어 있으며
어떻게 하면 자기에게 이로울까에 대해 혈안이 되어 있으며
서로를 헐뜯고 미워합니다.
인간은 하늘을 본지 너무 오래되었으며
자연과 숨쉬는 방법도 깡그리 망각하였으며
자기자신이 누구인지 알려고 하지 않습니다.
오직 몸이 만족하는 것, 말초적인 본능을 추구하며
자연의 섭리, 우주의 섭리를 까마득히 잊고 그냥그냥 살아갑니다.
그러한 인간의 행태가 현재의 저의 모습으로 드러났으며, 저를 위한다면서
자신들이 좋을대로 저를 취급하고 있습니다.
제가 울고 있는지, 화내고 있는지, 그 어떤 표정도 알려고 하지 않는 채로.

My heart got warmer after crying together.
Remember my present sate and show this to the world
so that this never happens again.
Please pass this along so that humans come to know this; that's what we want.
Please return nature for nature, not nature for humans.
Then our great sorrow will be released.
Please help us not hate human beings.
We are tired of the pains caused by human beings.
Please help us to understand them before I pass away.
